Lee Benson's Inside Guide to the Games 2002 Salt Lake City
Published in Paperback by Lee Benson (27 July, 2001)
Author: Lee Benson
Average review score:

Great Book! Very resourceful guide.
High quality with great information! Includes lots of tips on local restraunts and other things to do during the games. Nice summaries of venues, cities, and sports --- very light-hearted, I didn't feel as though I was reading an 'official' guide. Gives interesting tid-bits and facts regarding the local culture. Wonderful fold-out front and back-covers with map and schedule of events. Small enough to carry in a small bag or fanny pack.

Will definitely take with me as a resource to the Games in Feb 2002!

Seeing Salt Lake City: The Legacy of the Shipler Photographers
Published in Hardcover by Signature Books (February, 2001)
Authors: Alan Barnett, Ted L. Wilson, and Shipler Family
Average review score:

A welcome contribution to American photographic history
The Shipler family dominated photography in Utah for about 100 years. James Shipler left his Pittsburgh camera shop in 1889 to relocate in Salt Lake City and pioneered in photographer there. With his death in 1937, his son Harry succeeded him, with grandson Bill and great-grandson Hollis eventually taking their turn in the family business. About 100,000 Shipler glass-plate and film negatives survive in the archives of the Utah State Historical Society. Seeing Salt Lake City: The Legacy Of The Shipler Photographers comprises 175 of the best of these photographic legacy, reproduced as full-page images and historically showcasing Utah's capital city. From 1903 and a view of the Fremont School on Third West with a surrey parked outside awaiting its owner, to a 1940 photo of a row of Ford coupes outside the Crystal Palace Market on South Temple Street, each image is noted for its depth, clarity, and perspective, as well as the architecture evident with the growth and maturation of an American metropolis of the west. Seeing Salt Lake City is an impressive testament to one family's photographic artistry, and a welcome contribution to American photographic history.

Set in Stone, Fixed in Glass: The Great Mormon Temple and Its Photographers
Published in Hardcover by Signature Books (September, 1992)
Author: Nelson B. Wadsworth
Average review score:

I LOVE IT!!!!!!
I love old photo-history books, and this is one of the best. It shows photographs of the Salt Lake Mormon Temple, taken by various photographers at different times during its construction. Many historic photos are contained here. Also, much of the history of Utah as a Territory can be learned by the photos and the text.

I gained a greater appreciation for the pioneers and their legacy, by reading this book.

Temple Square: In the Light of Its Seasons
Published in Hardcover by Deseret Books (01 June, 2001)
Author: Don Busath
Average review score:

A Great Book
Don Busath has long been one of my favorite portrait photographers. With this book I see another side of Don and that is the passion that he has for the editorial type of image. This book demonstrates that with passion, discipline and vision one can capture the feeling of a place. As a photographer, it was interesting to see the dedication he applied to explore the subject of the Temple Square. The images are beautiful and interesting.

I Never Knew This Stuff
I bought a copy of this book primarily as a challenge. I've lived in Utah all my life and thought there's nothing a guidebook can teach me. Boy was I wrong! I learned something and I had fun reading it.
Something I think that's nice too is they put pictures of a lot of things they talk about. This is a really cool book.

Union Pacific: Salt Lake Route
Published in Hardcover by Boston Mills Press (November, 1995)
Author: Mark W. Hemphill
Average review score:

Captivating
Rare is it that one combines such great writing and great photography and design into a nice package. This book is without a doubt on of the best railroad books on the market. Not only are the photographs works of art themselves, so are the words flowing the pen of author Hemphill. Thoroughly researched, taking what could be dry history and turning it not only into a page-turner, but also feast for the eyes.
